Each year, Security First Credit Union awards five $1,000 scholarships to deserving college-bound graduating senior members. Please review the application and submission details below. We also have an online application to apply electronically. However, please note, the electronic application has to be completed all in one sitting. There is no option to save and return.

Congratulations 2020 Security First Credit Union Scholarship Recipients!

Thank you to all the outstanding students who applied!
Security First Credit Union (SFCU) recognizes the value of education in our communities. Each year, SFCU awards five (5) $1,000 scholarships to students throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
This year due to the COVID-19 restrictions, each recipient received an Olive Garden gift card to enjoy!

Anastasia CruzAnastasia Cruz

Anastasia Cruz – Mission, TX

Anastasia Cruz is a 2020 Sharyland High School graduate, where she ranked in the top 10% of her graduating class. She played Varsity Basketball for two years; Varsity Softball for four years, and performed as a Diamond her senior year. Anastasia was also active in the BCM Club, Theatre Productions, the Mighty Rattler Band, National Honor Society, and RGV Lead. She will attend Texas A&M Corpus Christi to pursue a degree in Kinesiology and Education. Anastasia’s dream is to become an elementary teacher/ coach.

Adam Castaneda

Adam Castaneda – Edinburg, TX

Adam Castaneda is a 2020 Robert Vela High School graduate and class Valedictorian. With his associate’s degree accomplished, Adam will be attending Rice University to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. He plans to further his education as a Rice Owl and return to the Rio Grande Valley to make advancements in STEM-related occupations.

Rebekah SchlatterRebekah Schlatter

Rebekah Schlatter – Brownsville, TX

Rebekah Schlatter is a 2020 Homer Hanna Early College High School graduate. She will be attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to pursue a degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. Rebekah plans are to further her education and become a Diversion Investigator with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Rebekah ModestoRebekah Modesto

Rebekah Modesto – Brownsville, TX

Rebekah Modesto is a 2020 Homer Hanna Early College High School graduate. Originally, from the Philippines, Rebekah and her family relocated to the Rio Grande Valley when she was three years old, settling in Brownsville as their new home. Rebekah will be attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to pursue a degree in biology with a focus on biological sciences. She plans to further her education and accomplish a master’s degree as a medical professional.

Alejandro Castillo

Alejandro Castillo – Mission, TX

Alejandro Castillo is a 2020 graduate of IDEA McAllen. He plans to obtain a biology degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with the long-term goal of attending medical school. His ultimate dream is to come back to his hometown; serve as a family practice physician, and give back to the community that has given me so much. “I am blessed to have so many wonderful memories growing up in the RGV. My volunteering experiences have inspired me to pursue a career in medicine to improve the lives of underserved residents that face so many challenges accessing affordable health care.”
